South Korea football federation apologizes after World Cup group-stage exit, fans demand resignations

South Korea was eliminated from the 2026 World Cup at the group stage, finishing third after a 2‑1 win over the Czech Republic followed by 0‑1 defeats to Mexico and South Africa. Coach Hong Myung‑bo had already announced his resignation, and the Korea Football Association (KFA) issued a formal apology, pledging deep reflection and renewed preparation for the future.

South Korean supporters reacted angrily, calling for the resignation of the KFA’s entire executive board and accusing the association of repeated failures. Fans demanded transparency, a complete overhaul of management, and warned that trust in the federation had been broken.

The KFA also rejected recent speculative reports, labeling them unfounded, while indicating that the search for a new national team coach and the election of a new federation president are underway.
