South Korea Honam semiconductor plan under land speculation scrutiny
Republican lawmaker Ahn Cheol‑soo demanded that the government and ruling party disclose any land holdings in the Honam region linked to the planned semiconductor cluster, warning that the project could create a wave of "land‑rich" investors and drive up property values. He called for immediate transparency from officials and suggested the venture might become the subject of a special investigation. Another lawmaker, Gong Dong‑jin, echoed concerns, highlighting infrastructure shortfalls such as water supply, power demand and the feasibility of RE100 renewable‑energy commitments for the plant. Both officials framed the Honam semiconductor initiative as a potential land‑speculation scheme that could benefit a small group at the expense of the public.
