South Korea unveils major technology strategy and housing supply plan
South Korea has unveiled the ‘Seven Major SEED’ initiative, an ambitious technology strategy designed to secure new economic growth engines. Chaired by President Lee Jae Myung, the plan targets several high-tech sectors to maintain global competitiveness amidst a shrinking workforce and slowing growth.
Key objectives include a moon landing by 2030, the development of a 100-qubit quantum computer by 2029, and the commercialization of small modular reactors (SMRs) and brain-computer interface products by 2035. The initiative also encompasses fusion energy, advanced biotechnology, next-generation renewables, and critical mineral supply chains.
In a separate effort to address economic stability, the government announced plans to supply over 230,000 new homes in the Seoul metropolitan area to curb rising property prices. Additionally, the finance ministry is working to deregulate megaprojects in the semiconductor and AI sectors to accelerate investment.
