South Korea implements Chuseok price stabilization measures

South Korean local governments and the central government are implementing various measures to stabilize prices and boost consumption ahead of the Chuseok holiday.

Incheon and Jeju provinces are hosting Onnuri gift certificate refund events at numerous traditional markets. In Incheon, consumers can receive up to 20,000 won in certificates when purchasing domestic agricultural or fishery products. Jeju is offering similar refunds of up to 20,000 won for domestic and deep-sea fishery products, while also conducting inspections to ensure origin labeling accuracy.

Buan County is also conducting a fishery product refund event at its local market to support residents and visitors. On a national level, the government has announced an additional 90 billion won in discount support for agricultural and livestock products, extending the discount period until September 30 and removing individual purchase limits. Furthermore, the government is increasing the supply of reserve fishery products and expanding discounts on processed foods to alleviate the financial burden on households during the holiday season.
