South Korea insurance advertising violations exceed 47,000 cases
Over 47,000 violations of online insurance advertising regulations were identified in South Korea between 2022 and the first half of 2024. Data submitted to National Assembly member Park Seong-hun reveals that the majority of these cases involved advertisements that failed to undergo prior review (61.4%) or omitted mandatory information.
Most violations were detected on blogs, which accounted for approximately 83% of the cases, followed by video platforms like YouTube. Despite the high volume of infractions, enforcement has been largely limited to corrective measures. Approximately 70.9% of the identified violations resulted only in the deletion or modification of the posts, while only 10 cases led to the imposition of fines by the General Insurance Association of Korea.
Lawmaker Park Seong-hun warned that relying solely on deletions and modifications may send a signal that illegal advertising is a low-risk activity. He urged financial authorities to implement more effective sanctions for habitual and intentional violations to prevent the rapid re-posting of non-compliant content.
