South Korea launches nationwide Hanwoo beef discount sale

To celebrate 'Hanwoo Day' on November 1, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs has announced a nationwide sale of Korean beef (Hanwoo) starting October 28. The 'Beef Prize Republic of Korea Hanwoo Sale' will run for 12 days across 1,811 locations, including large supermarkets, local marts, and major online shopping platforms.

Participating retailers include E-mart, Homeplus, Lotte Mart, and online vendors such as Coupang, 11st, and Gmarket. The sale targets popular cuts including sirloin, brisket, and bulgogi meat, with grades ranging from 1+ to 2. For 1st-grade beef, prices are expected to be below 8,430 won per 100g for sirloin, representing a reduction of approximately 30.8% compared to mid-October prices.

This initiative comes amid rising meat prices and a decrease in Hanwoo production due to declining cattle numbers. While the sale aims to stabilize consumer prices, broader trends show increasing costs for both domestic and imported meats, including pork and poultry, which may impact year-end dining expenses.
