South Korea lifts nationwide heavy‑rain alert after days of flooding

South Korea’s central disaster safety headquarters ended its Level 1 emergency response on the morning of July 10, removing the nationwide heavy‑rain alert after several days of intense precipitation. The storm forced the temporary evacuation of 758 people from 508 households across 25 localities, with 693 returning home and 65 remaining shelter‑bound. One fatality, a 70‑year‑old man swept away in a rapid river in Yeongju, is still being searched for.

The rain caused 453 reported damages to public and private facilities, including road flooding, fallen trees, collapsed embankments, and inundated homes. In South Chungcheong Province alone, 21 damage reports were logged, featuring collapsed trees on roads, water‑filled underpasses, and rainwater entering a nursing home. Authorities raised the landslide risk level in Daejeon, Sejong and South Chungcheong and issued road‑closure advisories where water overflowed onto bus stops and thoroughfares.
