The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education has submitted a supplementary budget proposal of 1.1711 trillion KRW to the Seoul Metropolitan Council. The budget aims to prioritize student welfare, safety, and modernizing educational environments.

A significant portion of the funds, totaling 625.4 billion KRW, is designated for school facilities and safety. This includes 214.2 billion KRW specifically for the complete renovation of aging toilets in 230 schools to address student discomfort. Additionally, 329 billion KRW will be allocated for improving school environments through heating, cooling, window, and electrical system upgrades, as well as seismic reinforcement.

In terms of educational welfare, the proposal allocates 11.1 billion KRW to expand free education and childcare to approximately 35,000 three-year-old children. If approved, this support could begin as early as September. Other allocations include 17.3 billion KRW for digital electronic blackboards in select classrooms, 56 billion KRW for modernizing meal services, and various funds for student mental health and teacher support.
