South Korea Ministry of Health holds first meeting with young medical professionals

The South Korean Ministry of Health and Welfare held its first consultative meeting with young healthcare professionals to discuss future medical policies and field challenges. Led by Second Vice Minister Lee Hyung-hoon, the meeting included representatives from various disciplines, including doctors, dentists, oriental medicine doctors, pharmacists, and nurses.

Participants emphasized the need for increased representation of young professionals in the healthcare policy decision-making process. Key suggestions included ensuring expert opinions are reflected in policies involving new technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI), and developing workforce policies that account for demographic shifts and technological advancements.

Specific professional concerns were raised: medical residents called for improved training environments and better duty systems; dentists and oriental medicine doctors requested expanded application of residency laws; pharmacists suggested integrating polypharmacy management with integrated care; and nurses advocated for practical communication channels in policy governance and the inclusion of youth perspectives in establishing staffing standards.
