South Korea named guest of honor at Medellín Book and Culture Festival
South Korea is the guest of honor at the 20th edition of the Medellín Book and Culture Festival in Colombia. The participation focuses on themes of historical memory, literature, and resistance.
Featured authors include Keum Suk Gendry-Kim, whose graphic novel “Hierba” reconstructs the testimony of Lee Ok-Sun, a survivor of the sexual slavery system imposed by the Japanese army during World War II. The festival also highlights “Chunhyangjeon,” a classic Korean tale from the pansori oral tradition, with its Spanish translation being distributed for free.
The Korean delegation includes several writers, such as Geum-yi Lee, Un-Su Kim, and Guho Cho, the latter of whom has academic ties to Colombia through studies at the Instituto Caro y Cuervo and the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana.
