South Korea opens new Korean Cultural Center in Malaysia

The South Korean Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has officially opened the Korean Cultural Center in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This facility marks the 36th Korean Cultural Center globally and the fifth in Southeast Asia.

Located in a major commercial area opposite the Petronas Towers, the 1,199 square meter center features a 100-seat performance hall, exhibition rooms, a cinema, a library, and classrooms. The center aims to serve as a hub for spreading K-culture, expanding beyond K-pop and dramas to include Korean food, beauty, and fashion.

The opening ceremony, themed “Connection through Culture,” featured collaborative performances between South Korean and Malaysian artists. Highlights included traditional Korean music and dance from the National Busan Gugak Center alongside traditional Malaysian performances from Istana Budaya. The event also showcased modern interpretations of Hanbok and traditional Korean crafts.
