South Korea opposition leader Jang Dong-hyuk urges special prosecutor law, warns against repeated obstruction

People Power Party (PPP) leader Jang Dong-hyuk said he welcomed the Democratic Party’s decision to adopt a special‑prosecutor bill as party policy, but warned the party must not repeat the earlier episode in which the Democratic Party stalled a special‑prosecutor investigation into the Unification Church. He told youth and citizens that any repeat would not be forgiven, and pledged to push for a full investigation and to prepare for a possible re‑election.

PPP floor leader Jung Jeong‑sik announced that talks with the Democratic Party over the allocation of parliamentary committee chairmanships broke down after the opposition’s proposal to share the Legislation and Judiciary Committee chair was rejected. He said disciplinary action against certain MPs should be handled cautiously, criticised the Democratic Party’s unilateral moves, and called for an emergency party meeting to plan further response.
