South Korea prepares for CSAT amid AI cheating concerns
With the 2027 College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT) approximately one month away, South Korean students face a unique academic landscape. This year marks the final CSAT to be conducted under the current Korean and Mathematics elective subject system, leading to an increase in 'N-su' students (those retaking the exam).
Educational experts advise students to focus on reviewing past exam questions and correcting previous mistakes rather than attempting new, difficult problems. Key strategies include maintaining a consistent study rhythm, practicing time management according to the actual exam schedule, and prioritizing health management to stabilize mental and physical conditions.
Simultaneously, concerns are rising regarding academic integrity. The use of AI-powered smart glasses for cheating has been detected during recent university admissions essays at institutions such as the University of Seoul and Yonsei University. In response, the Ministry of Education has issued guidelines for exam supervisors, though specific detection methods remain undisclosed to prevent students from developing evasion tactics. The Korea Institute for Curriculum and Evaluation has warned that possessing or wearing smart glasses during the CSAT will result in the exam being invalidated and may restrict eligibility for the following year's exam.
