President Lee emphasizes living conditions for semiconductor megaprojects

President Lee Jae Myung presided over the third public-private joint inspection meeting for the government’s three megaprojects, focusing on the semiconductor, physical AI, and AI data center industries. During the meeting at Cheong Wa Dae, Lee emphasized that the success of these initiatives depends on creating comprehensive living conditions—including housing, education, medical services, and culture—to encourage workers and their families to settle in regional hubs.

To avoid the pitfalls of previous innovation cities where low residency occurred due to poor infrastructure, Lee ordered that industrial complex construction and residential development be integrated into a single plan from the outset. The strategy involves a nationwide semiconductor belt: Honam as a production hub, Yeongnam for materials, components, and equipment, and Chungcheong for advanced packaging.

The meeting included senior executives from Samsung Electronics and SK Group, alongside various government ministers. Lee also directed officials to accelerate the development of physical AI and AI data centers, ensuring that regional talents and local businesses benefit directly from these technological advancements.
