South Korea provides $500,000 to Honduras for drought relief

South Korea has announced $500,000 in humanitarian assistance for Honduras to combat a severe drought that has persisted since May 2026. The funds will be distributed through international organizations operating within the country to support communities facing food shortages and economic instability.

An estimated 620,000 people are experiencing grave food insecurity due to the lack of rainfall. The drought has been particularly devastating in southern Honduras, a region within the Central American Dry Corridor. In several sectors, the water scarcity has led to the total loss of maize and bean crops, which are essential staples for the local population. The crisis also impacts livestock and other productive activities, undermining the livelihoods of agricultural communities.
