President Lee Jae‑myung said the delay in starting construction of the third‑generation new towns in Gyeonggi Province is a serious problem and that the 60‑month timeline should be cut to less than half. The government plans to add 32,800 housing units across sites such as Namyangju, Goyang, Hanam, Bucheon and Incheon, with housing starts and approvals already rising compared with last year.

Experts argue that accelerating the three GTX lines (A, B and C) would create a synergy between the large‑scale housing rollout and broader metropolitan transport, shortening commute times between Seoul and surrounding cities. Meanwhile, Hoban Construction Co. was selected as the contractor for the Gunpo‑City Geumjeong‑3 district redevelopment, a 656‑household, 2.3‑trillion‑won project featuring 35‑storey towers and extensive amenities. The site benefits from existing subway connections and the anticipated opening of GTX‑C, reinforcing the push for coordinated housing and infrastructure development in the capital region.
