South Korea pushes regional relocation and AI integration

South Korean Prime Minister Han Seong-suk has emphasized the necessity of relocating central administrative and public institutions to regional areas to promote balanced national development and long-term sustainability. During a cabinet meeting, Han instructed relevant ministries to establish implementation plans within the year, stressing the importance of improving residential and educational infrastructure to support relocating employees.

Additionally, the Prime Minister called for a major digital transformation within the public sector, aiming to fully integrate artificial intelligence (AI) into government operations by 2027. This includes developing systems for civil servants to autonomously apply AI and establishing reward structures for performance.

In a separate regional development discussion, Democratic Party lawmaker Yeom Tae-young identified Jeonbuk State as a critical axis for the government’s balanced growth strategy. Yeom proposed linking Saemangeum’s industrial and energy foundations with agriculture, manufacturing, and physical AI to transform the region into a new economic growth hub.
