South Korea reports 18.4 trillion won in unclaimed financial assets

South Korea is seeing significant activity regarding dormant financial assets and new savings opportunities for youth. Approximately 18.4 trillion won in unclaimed financial assets—including 7.5 trillion won in bank deposits, 5.8 trillion won in insurance, and 2.9 trillion won in card points—remains unclaimed as of mid-2025.

Consumers can reclaim these funds through mobile apps like Account Info or the Card Point Integrated Inquiry service. While card point redemption rates are high at nearly 79%, the redemption rate for bank deposits remains low at approximately 8.1%.

Simultaneously, the second round of applications for the Youth Future Savings program has opened, running until the 16th. Targeted at individuals aged 19 to 34 with specific income requirements, the program offers high effective interest rates. When combining government contributions of up to 12% with bank interest rates reaching 8%, the product can provide an effective annual return of up to 19.4% for eligible participants.
