South Korea rescues two men from hazardous swimming incidents

In Suwon's Gwanggyo new lake, a man who had been drinking wore a life jacket and entered the water in the early hours of 2 May. Fire‑rescue crews responded to a 119 call and pulled him from the lake; he showed no health problems, declined transport to a hospital and returned home.

Later that morning on the Han River near Seoul's Jamsil Bridge, a 30‑year‑old man was pulled into a water‑gate opening while swimming. Rescue teams arrived about 20 minutes after the report and found him in cardiac arrest. After on‑site emergency treatment he was taken to a hospital. Both incidents underscore authorities' warnings that swimming in rivers or lakes, especially under the influence of alcohol or near water‑gate structures, is extremely dangerous.
