South Korea schedules parliamentary hearing on football federation and approves acting deputy chairman

The National Assembly's Culture, Sports and Tourism Committee will hold a hearing on June 30 to examine issues within the Korea Football Association (KFA). The session, postponed from an earlier date, will feature testimonies from former KFA president Jeong Mong‑kyu, former national team coach Hong Myung‑bo and other officials. Lawmakers noted criticism over previously inviting current players as witnesses and expect the hearing to clarify the federation’s governance and the national team’s coach‑selection process.

Separately, the Korean Sports Council has approved Lee Yong‑su, the KFA’s deputy chairman, to serve as acting head following Jeong’s resignation two weeks earlier. The appointment is intended to accelerate preparations for a new presidential election, though legal review is required for charter and election‑rule amendments. Lee’s interim role is seen as a step toward stabilising the federation’s operations ahead of upcoming international competitions.
