South Korea selects Lee Chang-dong’s ‘Possible Love’ for Oscars
The Korean Film Council (KOFIC) has selected Lee Chang-dong’s “Possible Love” as South Korea’s official entry for the Best International Feature category at the upcoming Academy Awards. This marks the director’s first feature film in eight years, following his critically acclaimed 2018 film “Burning”.
The selection committee praised the film for its cinematic completeness, mise-en-scène, and its profound exploration of class, love, and desire. The film features an ensemble cast including Jeon Do-yeon, Sul Kyung-gu, Zo In-sung, and Cho Yeo-jeong. The plot follows two married couples whose lives become intertwined when a documentary filmmaker begins chronicling a family facing unemployment.
“Possible Love” is a Netflix production and is scheduled to premiere in the main competition at the Venice Film Festival before appearing at the Toronto International Film Festival. It is slated for a theatrical release in South Korea on September 23, followed by a global release on Netflix on November 6.
