South Korea strengthens cultural ties with Türkiye through new initiatives
South Korea is strengthening its cultural ties with Türkiye through new initiatives and events. The Korean Cultural Center's new director, Park Saeng, emphasized a shift toward experience-oriented programming. He aims to move beyond passive observation by involving the public in hands-on activities, including culinary programs that merge Korean and Turkish cuisines.
In Istanbul, the Korean Consulate General launched 'Korean Culture Week' with a traditional dance performance by the Incheon City Dance Company at the Atatürk Cultural Center. Consul General Taeyoung Park noted that while the two nations are geographically distant, they share significant cultural commonalities. The event, held in collaboration with Incheon Metropolitan City, included exhibitions of Korean cosmetics and traditional arts.
These efforts serve as part of a broader cultural diplomacy strategy ahead of the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between South Korea and Türkiye next year. Officials highlighted that upcoming international meetings in Istanbul, such as the World Heritage Committee sessions, will provide further opportunities for cultural exchange and artistic collaboration between the two nations.
