South Korea to discuss AI music copyright trust standards

The South Korean Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, in collaboration with the office of National Assembly member Kim Jae-won and the K-Music Rights Organizations Win-Win Committee, is hosting a forum to discuss copyright trust and registration standards for music created using generative artificial intelligence.

The forum, held at the National Assembly Member's Hall, focuses on the current status of AI music usage and establishing criteria for determining human creative contribution. Experts will present on international cases regarding AI copyright registration and propose amendments to the registration regulations of music trust organizations.

The K-Music Rights Organizations Win-Win Committee, which includes groups such as the Korea Music Copyright Association and the Korea Music Performers' Association, has been working since February to reorganize copyright order in the AI era. Their initiatives include developing AI music identification programs, building integrated databases, and conducting research for amending copyright and collection regulations.
