South Korea to focus second public institution relocation on existing innovation cities

The South Korean government is preparing to announce its second phase of relocating public institutions to regional areas. During a meeting with Representative Park Seong-min, Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Kim Yun-deok confirmed that the relocation strategy will focus on existing innovation cities rather than creating new ones.

Representative Park advocated for the concentration of relocated institutions within the Ulsan Jung-gu Ujeong Innovation City to create synergy with existing agencies and local industries such as automotive, shipbuilding, and petrochemicals. He noted that spreading institutions across different locations could undermine the stability of established innovation cities. Minister Kim expressed intent to convey the current situation of innovation cities and the necessity for additional relocations to the President.
