South Korea to increase national civil servant headcount by 3,851

The South Korean government has announced plans to increase the number of national civil servants by 3,851 next year, focusing on public safety and essential services. The expansion includes 700 labor inspectors to prevent industrial accidents, 215 police officers to strengthen investigative capabilities, and 1,139 educators to address the needs of special education and student health.

Additional staffing will be allocated to high-risk probation and electronic monitoring (72 personnel), maritime safety (354 personnel), and advanced technology sectors such as AI and patent examination (105 personnel). The Ministry of the Interior and Safety stated that these changes aim to secure national momentum in cutting-edge industries while enhancing disaster response and social welfare support. The final scale of the increase will be confirmed following National Assembly deliberations in December.
