South Korea to inspect 46 maritime construction sites

South Korea's Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries is launching an intensive inspection period from September 28 to October 30 to enhance quality control and prevent accidents at maritime construction sites. The ministry will conduct comprehensive inspections of 46 special management sites, including ports, fishing ports, roads, and coastal maintenance projects.

Targeted sites include projects with construction costs exceeding 30 billion won, low-bid contracts with a winning rate below 70%, and those involving safety-vulnerable processes. The inspection regime has been restructured this year to increase the frequency of inspections from once to twice per year and to shift from selective sampling to a full inspection of all special management projects.

A Central Quality and Safety Management Task Force, composed of private experts and government officials, will be deployed in 10 teams. They will evaluate construction quality, safety management practices, and the implementation of corrective actions from previous inspections.
