South Korea updates parental leave as Sioux Falls launches school support initiatives

South Korea is introducing a new short-term parental leave system to help parents manage sudden childcare gaps. Under the revised regulations, parents can take seven or 14 days of leave once per year for each child. This short-term leave will be deducted from the total parental leave entitlement but will not count toward the limit on how many times leave can be split. Eligible workers can receive benefits based on their ordinary wage, with monthly payments capped at 2.5 million won for the first three months.

In the United States, community initiatives are addressing back-to-school needs in Sioux Falls. Hy-Vee is hosting a community food drive through August 23, matching monetary donations dollar-for-dollar up to $100,000 to support local food banks. Additionally, the organization Hungry Hearts is hosting an event on August 22 to provide middle school students with free backpacks, school supplies, and shoes.

The Sioux Falls School District has also released its academic calendar for the upcoming school year, noting that classes are scheduled to begin on August 27.
