South Korean Actor Choi Jung Won Clears His Name After Five-Year Legal Battle

Actor and singer Choi Jung Won, former member of the duo UN, posted a lengthy Instagram message on July 29 stating that the lawsuits accusing him of an extramarital affair and of stalking have been resolved in his favor. The court rejected the affair claim and found no wrongdoing, while the related harassment investigation also ended without indictment.

Prosecutors in Seoul’s Central District Prosecutors’ Office issued a deferred indictment on July 16 for an aggravated intimidation charge, citing the complainant’s request to drop the case and insufficient evidence. An allegation of threatening to distribute private recordings was likewise dismissed. Choi said the civil lawsuit filed against him was also settled in his favor, with no criminal charges pending. He expressed relief and disappointment that false accusations often attract more attention than their eventual dismissal.
