South Korean actors sustain popularity of dramas with weak scripts

In the South Korean television industry, exceptional acting performances have occasionally been credited with sustaining the popularity of series despite flawed or illogical scripts. This phenomenon highlights a paradox where high-caliber casts can maintain viewer engagement even when narrative structures, pacing, or character motivations falter.

One notable example is ‘The Night Watchman’s Diary’, which featured a cast including Jung Il Woo, Yunho, Go Sung Hee, and Seo Ye Ji. While the production faced criticism regarding its world-building, inconsistent special effects, and lack of clarity in plot progression, the actors' performances helped mitigate these shortcomings. Jung Il Woo, in particular, was noted for his portrayal of a character transitioning from a rebellious youth to a responsible leader.
