South Korean agricultural cooperatives expand urban-rural cooperation
Agricultural organizations and local governments in South Korea are expanding cooperation to support rural development and urban-rural coexistence.
In Chilgok County, the local government and the Chilgok County branch of Nonghyup signed a memorandum of understanding to promote the public value of agriculture and rural areas. The partnership focuses on increasing farmers' benefits through the promotion and sale of local agricultural products, providing labor support during busy farming seasons, and offering financial education to residents.
Separately, Gyeongbuk Nonghyup facilitated an exchange event between Seodaegu Nonghyup and Namuljin Nonghyup to strengthen urban-rural ties. Following a sisterhood agreement in June 2024, the two cooperatives are jointly investing 1.5 billion won to modernize the Namuljin Nonghyup agricultural materials center as part of a shared win-win project.
