South Korea selects SK Telecom, Kakao, and KT for ‘AI for Everyone’ project

The South Korean Ministry of Science and ICT has selected three consortia—SK Telecom, Kakao, and KT—to implement the ‘AI for Everyone’ project. This national initiative aims to provide free, domestic AI services to the public, including general-purpose chatbots and public administration AI agents.

To support the project, the government will provide 512 NVIDIA B200 GPUs to the selected companies this year. Starting in 2027, the government plans to provide budget support for the ongoing operation of these services. The project seeks to foster a domestic AI ecosystem by requiring that services utilize at least 50% domestic AI foundation models.

Each consortium will offer distinct capabilities. The SK Telecom consortium focuses on ‘executable AI’ that can handle tasks via apps, web, calls, and texts, specifically targeting digital accessibility for seniors. The Kakao consortium will leverage KakaoTalk to integrate chatbots and agents, collaborating with LG Uplus for telephone AI services. The KT consortium will create an integrated environment connecting services like Daum, Danawa, Musinsa, and Zigbang through its media and communication infrastructure. The project is expected to enter beta testing in September, with a full official launch planned by the end of the year.
