South Korean authorities investigate murder and robbery cases

Authorities in South Korea are pursuing two separate criminal cases involving violent crimes and fraud.

In Paju, a cafe operator in his 30s is expected to be indicted on October 1 for the murder of a woman in her 60s. The suspect allegedly lured the victim to a refrigerated container under the guise of a 50 billion won counterfeit gift certificate transaction. After the victim discovered the certificates were fake, the suspect reportedly confined and killed her. Investigators found that the suspect had prepared a defense strategy to claim he was merely a middleman to avoid responsibility.

In Jeju, police have apprehended a Chinese national in his 40s for robbery and assault. The suspect allegedly met a woman at a casino and lured her to a residence by promising currency exchange services. He is accused of assaulting the victim, stealing approximately 7 million won in property, and threatening to distribute nude photographs he took of her during the crime. Police are currently preparing to request an arrest warrant.
