South Korean banks offer up to 5 billion won loans to Homeplus suppliers
Shinhan Bank announced financial assistance for Homeplus’s partner companies, providing loans of up to 5 billion won per firm. The package includes a maximum 1 percentage‑point interest‑rate discount, optional loan‑term extensions without principal repayment, and a deferral of instalment payments. Support is granted once a supplier’s delivery to Homeplus is verified, and delinquent interest may be waived.
KB Kookmin Bank issued a similar emergency working‑capital program, also up to 5 billion won per eligible supplier. It offers discounted rates, a possible one‑year extension of the loan maturity without principal repayment, and up to a year of repayment deferral for instalments. Both banks are acting after Homeplus’s corporate‑rehabilitation process was terminated, which had left many small and medium‑sized enterprises with delayed payments.
The measures aim to alleviate cash‑flow pressures for the retailers’ subcontractors and small‑business partners, helping them maintain operations amid the payment disruptions caused by the retailer’s legal proceedings.
