South Korean battery firms target humanoid robot market with advanced materials
South Korean battery material companies are accelerating the development of high-density and long-life materials to secure a foothold in the burgeoning humanoid robot market. As major corporations like Samsung, Hyundai, and LG intensify their robotics competition, the industry is focusing on battery technologies that can overcome the weight and space constraints inherent in humanoid designs.
EcoPro is prioritizing high-nickel ternary batteries and all-solid-state battery materials. EcoPro BM has been selected for the South Korean government’s ‘Super Eul Project’ to develop sulfide-based solid electrolytes, aiming for mass production by 2027.
Other key players are also advancing specialized technologies: L&F is developing high-nickel cathode materials, such as its NCMA95, to increase energy density and reduce costs. Meanwhile, POSCO Future M is focusing on silicon-based anode materials, which offer significantly higher lithium storage capacity than graphite, helping to reduce battery volume and weight while extending operational time.
