South Korean celebrities investigated over illegal medical procedures

South Korean police are investigating several high-profile celebrities for allegedly receiving illegal medical treatments from an unlicensed individual known as the ‘injection auntie’. The Seoul Gangnam Police Station has summoned multiple figures, including SHINee members Onew and Key, comedian Jun Hyun Moo, comedian Park Na Rae, and YouTuber Ipjjanhan Haetnim, to determine if they were aware that the provider lacked a medical license.

The suspect, a woman identified as Ms. Lee, is accused of performing medical procedures such as administering IV fluids and prescribing antidepressants in non-medical settings, including offices and vehicles, without a valid license. Under South Korean law, individuals who knowingly request illegal medical services can potentially be prosecuted as accomplices.

In response to the investigation, Onew’s agency, Griffin Entertainment, stated that the singer had visited a clinic for skincare through an acquaintance and believed the individual was a legitimate medical professional. Similarly, Jun Hyun Moo previously released medical records to argue that his past treatments were legal. Police have completed questioning the five primary individuals involved and are continuing their investigation into the unlicensed practitioner.
