South Korean cities expand international economic and cultural cooperation

South Korean municipalities are actively pursuing international cooperation to bolster economic and cultural ties.

Gyeongju Mayor Joo Nak-young met with the leadership of the ASEAN-Korea, ASEAN-China, and ASEAN-Japan centers to discuss expanding exchange and practical cooperation. The meeting coincided with the 22nd Annual Secretary-General Meeting of the ASEAN Centers. Additionally, Gyeongju is leveraging its APEC networks to attract foreign investment, recently hosting a delegation of Chinese business representatives to discuss opportunities in the automotive parts, nuclear energy, and advanced materials sectors.

In Jinju, Mayor Cho Kyu-il led a delegation to Georgia, USA, to expand cooperation in the aerospace, economic, and cultural sectors. The delegation met with officials from Atlanta to discuss cultural exchanges, such as the Jinju Namgang Yudeung Festival. Furthermore, the Jinju Chamber of Commerce and Industry signed a memorandum of understanding with the Georgia Korean Chamber of Commerce to facilitate business networks and support Jinju companies in entering the U.S. market. The visit also included meetings with global aerospace leaders to strengthen industrial ties.
