South Korean cities Gwangmyeong and Suncheon outline 2027 administrative plans

Gwangmyeong and Suncheon cities in South Korea have initiated meetings to establish their major administrative and business plans for 2027.

Gwangmyeong City is conducting a series of reports involving 53 departments and four public institutions. Led by Mayor Park Seung-won, the sessions focus on the core values of livelihood, peace, and solidarity. The process aims to discover new projects for the ninth local election term, review major issues such as transportation and development, and reallocate resources by phasing out outdated projects.

Suncheon City is working toward realizing its vision as a ‘future economic city’ by focusing on ecological-based growth. Mayor Son Hoon-mo outlined plans to foster strategic industries including defense, aerospace, green bio, and cultural content. Key initiatives include the development of the ‘SuncheonSAT’ satellite ground station, supporting the establishment of a medical school and university hospital, and expanding ecological tourism around Suncheon Bay and the National Garden. The city also aims to strengthen social safety nets through AI-driven care systems and enhanced medical services.
