South Korean cities host festivals to celebrate Hangeul Day

Various festivals are being organized across South Korea to commemorate the 580th anniversary of the promulgation of Hunminjeongeum and the 100th anniversary of the establishment of Hangeul Day.

In Sejong City, the Sejong City Culture and Tourism Foundation will host the ‘2026 Sejong Hangeul Festival’ from October 9 to 11 at Sejong Lake Park and Sejong Central Park. The event features 82 programs, including performances, exhibitions, and experiences. Highlights include a ‘Hangeul Run’ morning event, a celebratory flight by the Black Eagles aerobatic team, and a drone show that will depict Hangeul in the night sky. The festival also includes a book talk concert titled ‘Hangeul Ban딧buri Jiphyeonjeon’ and aims to support local businesses by promoting nearby restaurants and cafes.

In Gwacheon, the Gwacheon Cultural Center will hold a ‘Hangeul Day Festival’ on October 9 at the Munwon Living Culture Center. The festival offers 19 different experience booths, such as traditional crafts and food making, with a low participation fee of 500 won per session. The event will also feature various busking performances, including magic shows, ocarina music, and band performances, to allow citizens to enjoy Korean culture in a relaxed, everyday setting.
