South Korean cities implement autumn wildfire prevention measures
Municipalities in South Korea, including Namwon and Seogwipo, are launching intensive wildfire prevention measures for the autumn season. From November 1 to December 15, both regions will operate dedicated wildfire prevention headquarters to combat risks posed by dry weather and strong winds.
In Namwon, authorities are focusing on monitoring agricultural lands adjacent to forests to prevent illegal burning of farming byproducts and waste. The city is emphasizing the importance of rapid initial response to prevent small sparks from escalating into uncontrollable forest fires.
Seogwipo is deploying 112 personnel, including forest fire monitors and specialized prevention and firefighting teams. The city is also implementing an ICT platform worth 375 million won, which utilizes surveillance cameras to detect smoke and send automated alerts, enabling continuous monitoring even at night. Seogwipo plans to use drones and various firefighting equipment to enhance its response capabilities.
