South Korean cities launch safety inspections of factories and warehouses

Municipalities in South Korea, including Bucheon and Gunpo, have initiated large-scale fire safety inspections targeting local factories and warehouses to prevent major industrial accidents.

In Bucheon, authorities will conduct a phased investigation of 2,107 facilities with a total floor area of 500 square meters or more. The inspection, involving civil servants and private experts, focuses on illegal extensions, flammable building materials, and the management of hazardous substances. The city plans to use a mobile platform to build a fire safety database for continuous management through next year.

Similarly, Gunpo is conducting joint inspections of 846 facilities in collaboration with the local fire department. The process will be carried out in three stages, prioritizing high-risk sites containing hazardous materials. The investigation covers 50 specific items related to architectural integrity and fire protection equipment. Serious violations will result in immediate corrective orders and ongoing monitoring.
