Suwon City to support elderly drivers with pedal misoperation prevention devices
Suwon City has announced a recruitment drive for its ‘AI-powered pedal misoperation prevention device installation support project’ to help prevent traffic accidents involving elderly drivers. The program aims to support 45 elderly drivers aged 65 or older who have resided in Suwon for at least one year.
The device is designed to detect abnormal rapid acceleration during low-speed driving, at which point it limits accelerator pedal operation and emits a warning sound. The city will provide full coverage of the 440,000 won installation cost per vehicle.
To participate, applicants must use a smartphone app to provide driving records for effectiveness analysis, which excludes iPhone users from the program. Eligible vehicles must have a maximum load capacity of 1.4 tons or less. Applications can be submitted online via the ‘Saebit Toktok’ platform or in person at the Suwon City Hall Transportation Policy Division by the 14th.
