South Korean coastal regions report high summer tourism numbers

Major coastal regions in South Korea reported significant visitor numbers for the summer vacation season. In Taean County, approximately 1.57 million people visited 21 beaches between early July and August 23. Mallipo Beach was the most popular destination with 730,000 visitors, followed by Kkotji Beach with 440,000. Despite a slight decrease compared to last year due to extreme heat and one fewer operating beach, July data showed an 8.2% increase in visitors compared to the same period last year.

In Yangyang County, visitor numbers reached 1.109 million across 21 beaches from July 10 to August 23, marking a 29% increase from the previous year. Local authorities attribute this growth to improved road networks, new accommodation facilities, and the introduction of night openings at Naksan Beach, alongside various cultural events.

Both regions have implemented safety measures. Taean County has deployed safety and patrol personnel through September 13, while Yangyang County plans to maintain safety personnel at all beaches until mid-September to manage late-summer visitors.
