South Korean community programs promote media literacy and cultural inclusion

Various community initiatives in South Korea are focusing on media literacy and cultural expression. In Jeju, Jeju Maeil and the International Family Culture Institute concluded a month-long program designed to strengthen the media capabilities of multicultural students. The program utilized Newspaper in Education (NIE) methods to help elementary, middle, and high school students improve their reading, writing, and presentation skills. Ten students were appointed as student reporters to provide unique perspectives on local policies and culture through print and online media.

In Yeoju, the Yeoju Sejong Culture and Tourism Foundation has announced the first Yeoju Namhangang Hangeul Calligraphy Contest for people with disabilities. Scheduled for October 8 near the Namhangang River, the event aims to promote the beauty of the Hangeul alphabet and encourage artistic participation among individuals with disabilities. The competition includes categories for ink calligraphy and watercolor calligraphy, with themes centered on coexistence and the heritage of King Sejong the Great.
