South Korean corporations show diverging executive and technology trends

A report by the Korea CXO Research Institute reveals shifting executive trends among South Korea's top 100 companies. While the total number of non-registered executives rose by 1.6% to 7,137, the ratio remains low, with one executive for every 121 employees. SK hynix saw the most significant growth, increasing its executive count by 72 people (35.5%), accounting for approximately 66% of the total net increase among the top 100 firms. In contrast, Samsung Electronics saw only a single increase in executives, a disparity attributed to differing business strategies between SK hynix’s focus on high-bandwidth memory (HBM) and Samsung’s diversified portfolio including smartphones and home appliances.

Separately, Samsung Electronics has completed the free transfer of 126 technologies to 99 small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) this year. These technologies cover mobile, display, and home appliance sectors, including IoT device control, mobile robotics, and voice data processing. This initiative is part of a long-term program supported by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy to foster a collaborative innovation ecosystem by sharing unused intellectual property with smaller firms.
