South Korean cosmetics exports reach record levels
South Korea has become the world’s second-largest cosmetics exporter, trailing only France and surpassing the United States. According to the country’s Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, South Korea exported a record US$11.4 billion of cosmetics in 2025, with skincare products accounting for approximately three-quarters of that value.
The industry is seeing significant growth in Europe, which has overtaken Asia as the largest air cargo market for Korean beauty products. Specifically, shipments to Poland more than doubled in 2025. The United Kingdom is also experiencing rapid growth, with Korean cosmetics exports to the UK rising by more than half in 2025 to approximately US$230 million.
As K-Beauty transitions from a novelty impulse purchase to a routine-based necessity, retail experts note a shift in consumer behavior. Shoppers are increasingly seeking full regimens—including cleansers, toners, essences, and sunscreens—rather than single items like sheet masks, prompting calls for retailers to adjust store layouts to accommodate these comprehensive routines.
