South Korean municipalities push for rural basic income pilot programs
Various South Korean municipalities are intensifying efforts to secure selection for rural basic income pilot programs to combat regional extinction and population decline.
In Gangjin-gun, a lecture series was held featuring Kang Nam-hoon of the Basic Society Committee to build public consensus. The initiative aims to provide regular payments via local currency to improve residents' quality of life and stimulate local economies. Officials expressed a strong commitment to being selected in upcoming government competitions.
Danyang-gun is implementing a multi-pronged strategy, including relay resolution rallies, online and offline signature campaigns, and the formation of a public-private task force. The county is also engaging political leaders to advocate for its inclusion in the pilot projects, emphasizing the potential for a virtuous economic cycle through increased local consumption.
Similarly, Hadong-gun is conducting relay rallies to demonstrate the local community's desire to host the rural basic income program.
