South Korean court network hacking attempts surge to 240,000
Hacking attempts targeting the South Korean court network have surged significantly this year. Data submitted to Representative Kim Dong-ha reveals that between January and August, the National Court Administration detected 239,145 hacking attempts. This figure represents a 2.4-fold increase compared to the same period last year.
Monthly data shows that March saw the highest volume of attacks with 48,263 attempts. The surge follows a period where monthly attempts typically remained below 20,000.
In addition to the increase in attacks, the court administration faces criticism regarding budget management and accountability. A 1 billion won budget intended for security equipment was entirely unused due to delayed procurement processes. Furthermore, despite a previous breach involving North Korean hackers that leaked 1,014GB of data, internal audits resulted in no disciplinary actions for the ten officials under investigation, with most receiving only warnings or being cleared of wrongdoing.
