South Korean courts impose prison terms for severe assault cases

An 80‑year‑old man was sentenced by the Gwangju District Court to two years in prison, suspended for four years, after he threw a 2‑liter plastic water bottle at his 77‑year‑old wife, who had a history of stroke and other illnesses, causing her death. In a separate case, a 50‑year‑old man received a two‑year prison sentence from the Ulsan District Court for severely assaulting a man in a restaurant parking lot, causing permanent blindness in one eye.
