South Korean courts issue sentences for robbery and assault

South Korean courts have issued sentences for two separate criminal cases involving residential intrusion and assault.

A man in his 40s was sentenced to 3 years and 6 months in prison by the Busan District Court for robbery, injury, and trespassing. The defendant had entered an officetel building seven times using a former resident's passcode or emergency stairs. In one instance, he followed a woman in her 20s into her home, threatened her, and physically assaulted her to steal money via credit card loans and cash withdrawals. The court noted the severity of the crime and the significant mental distress caused to the victim.

In a separate case, the Daegu District Court handed a 6-month prison sentence, suspended for 2 years, along with 120 hours of community service to a man in his 60s for habitual assault against taxi drivers. The defendant had physically assaulted drivers on multiple occasions, including one instance where he threatened a driver with death. The court took into account that the defendant reached settlements with the victims, who expressed they did not wish for him to be punished.
