South Korean courts issue sentences for sexual exploitation and fatal industrial negligence

South Korean courts have issued sentences in two separate criminal cases involving exploitation and negligence.

In Uijeongbu, a man in his 30s was sentenced to five years in prison for producing 168 instances of sexual exploitation material targeting a minor with intellectual disabilities. The defendant, who has a history of similar offenses against vulnerable individuals both in society and while incarcerated, was also ordered to undergo ten years of personal information disclosure and a ten-year employment ban at institutions involving children, youth, or persons with disabilities.

In Busan, a court ruled on a fatal industrial accident caused by unlicensed operation of construction machinery. A man in his 40s received a one-year prison sentence for professional negligence resulting in death after striking a worker with a 5-ton machine. The CEO of the manufacturing company involved received a one-year prison sentence suspended for two years under the Serious Accidents Punishment Act for failing to implement necessary safety measures. Investigations revealed that the company had ignored previous safety warnings regarding the lack of supervisors and faulty warning lights at the site.
